“Selected as the 2025 Hudson West Fest Emerging Artist, Maidin’s music is an entanglement of acoustic and electronic sounds. A playdate between the old and the new. Fans of Madison Cunningham, Bon Iver, and Joni Mitchell will feel at home in Maidin’s vivid emotional landscapes. Her lyrics dwell on a lifelong obsession with nature, and the existential crises that a love of the outdoors tends to inspire. With a microphone in her hiking pack, she collects field recordings of birdsong, wind, and rain, and builds her songs around these natural sounds.
She has performed all over the east coast at iconic venues like Café Wha? and the various City Wineries, as well as on unconventional stages on Jersey beaches, in forests, and in abandoned cemeteries.
Her band is comprised of insufferable jazz geniuses who she has forced into the folk world. This leads to a sound that is wandering through genres in search of an identity. An electric violinist, a ukulele bassist, and a drummer who all sing in 3-part harmony. And with a lead singer who swaps between guitars, mandolin, dulcimer, and synthesizers, you never quite know what to expect
”
“Do you know who can really sing? Maidin.
The singer possesses a heartbroken voice - a communicator’s voice - and she stays present to the nuances of her melodies and the meaning of her lovelorn lyrics throughout her performances. In concert, Maidin has lately been appearing with an electric violinist who echoes her phrasing and a sensitive, sympathetic rhythm section. As all Joni-loving songwriters must, she accompanies herself on a Martin acoustic guitar. Phoebe Bridgers is an obvious comparison and an model for her engrossing music, but in practice, her full-throated singing and sharply-worded rebukes to those who’ve let her down (including herself) make her more like a homegrown answer to Jensen McRae. ”
